Why Are You Spending So Much Time On Partial Preterism?
This is a question I have been asked and the answer is, it isn’t because this view and Amil are two views that I see closest to what scripture is teaching, although I do, and it isn’t because I am trying to change anyone’s mind or promote a certain view, but because Gary DeMar asks the same questions I have asked and that should be asked concerning these passages. Context is very important when studying scripture. Partial Preterism is also the least heard of, least known about, least properly represented, view of all I have highlighted so far. I think it’s important to realistically, honestly, portray all the views so that they are fully understood before we write them off as not Biblical or heresy. Kim Riddelbarger says:
A theological position is only as strong as its weakest link.
That is something that must be considered in each view I am presenting.
Most of the answers he has given are those that I found for myself when studying this subject. They are questions I have asked since the late 1970’s. They are questions that I believe are relevant when studying the Bible, reading these passages. They are questions that hardly anyone has asked or been able to answer, simply accepting a view because it was taught to them and is the norm for a particular denomination as I did. Neither view has been writing science fiction books, they can’t as the view won’t allow it nor are any predictions being made that have a chance for failure. Again neither view allows for it. In other words, they can’t. However, the truth of what the scriptures teach is what we should be seeking. I see Amil and Partial Preterism to offer the most balance in light of other passages, when scripture is allowed to interpret scripture, I see it all from Genesis to Revelation fitting nicely. Neither view goes off the deep end, and although I will be posting on one or two more views, the questions that Gary DeMar offers in these videos are relevant and should be worth considering. It makes a difference in reading the scriptures as to the answer.
My hope is that you will listen to the question and the answer critically, getting your Bibles out in whatever translation you feel comfortable with, and seek these things out. If you will be honest, it seems that what a person’s eschatology is does determine how they will live, and how they will read the rest of the Bible. This point was specifically touched on in the first video I posted. Which view promotes Christ as the Victor, the church having the victory, and which promotes a defeatist now attitude, with supposed victory to come later? What exactly does the Bible say Christ’s ministry, death on the Cross, resurrection accomplished? How can the passages given in each view be reconciled with the rest of the Bible? How does each view give centrality to Christ? How does this view bring ultimate glory to God? What view gives peace, while another possibly gives fear, dread to the Christian? Does it make a difference in the reasons we give the gospel? How we present the gospel? Answering the questions presented in these videos I think is crucial in which view may be closest to being correct. Again, there are many views, which is another point I am trying to make. Is it right to call one correct and others heresy? I hope this gives you…
Something crucial to think about.
