God Has Not Given Us The Spirit of Fear…So Stop It!

2Ti 1:7  for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

John Gill says this on 2 Tim. 1:7:

“Fear not the face of man; fear not the dangers you may meet with in the way of your duty.” God hath delivered us from the spirit of fear, and hath given us the spirit of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

As you go out and vote today I would caution you to keep a level head and be the one to stop passing gossip about Obama. We are Christians, we have wisdom that others don’t. Some separate from the world on everything but politics. Others such as Lee Saunders Jason Kearney, Alan Cross, have the right idea. But instead of level headedness, living as the Christians the Bible says we are to be, there are just too many “Bobs” out there.

It is sad that Christians go around half cocked, scared, over nothing. The Bible tells us to not worry about anything, that God is in control even of king’s hearts, that all works out for His purposes.  I believe not doing so is a sin against God. It goes against who we are. So instead of spreading vicious rumors about the candidates you don’t want, believing everything you hear from the news media or those pass it on emails, get your Bibles out and renew the mind. Get rid of the lies and replace it with truth. Vote your conscience as a Christian and then pray for whoever our next President is and quit walking around like it’s the end of the world. Quit predicting it’s the end of the world. It’s been done in the past and it hasn’t happened, and if it does what are you going to be able to do about it? God is God. Quit living like you have the control. You don’t. Either we trust God or we don’t. Which is it?

By the way I have returned from voting. In case those of you don’t know, Starbucks is giving a free cup of coffee to those who have proof they voted.

I got my free cup this morning, but had voted early. They took my word for it.

You are right on here again Debbie. You are such a good writer and say what I’d like to say most of the time!! I serve a risen savior, I will pray for whoever the man is in the White House and SERVE my Lord and get ready for HIS Kingdom.

We’ll be there Christmas time, still hope we can have coffee. Maybe Wade can come by and say HEY! :)

Did they have Starbucks coffee for early voting? Guess I missed it.

Loved the post. No need to whine or cower. After all, the early church didn’t get to vote at all … and they had to live (or die) under Vespasian and Nero.

They had Starbucks all day, at least here in Enid. I didn’t have time to grab one though. Had to make my own and I’m picky about my coffee so it was good. :)

Good point PJ. The early Christians didn’t have much of a choice did they. I would rather live in a country that votes count even if my candidate didn’t win(which by the way is still Huckabee). Freedom doesn’t mean we will always win, but I believe God is always in control and so I will pray for Barack Obama who has won to succeed in his Presidency for the good of the country, and for this to bring racial unity, healing wounds that have been hurting far too long.

Just wanted you to know how I appreciated your statement here about the president. I was looking for the location of the passage about a “spirit of fear and a sound mind,”etc., and I came across this posting. I have to agree very much. I may not like the politics but God certainly has the power to put into or remove a power person if He chooses. The Bible says that we are to respect those in authority to us. We don’t have to respect some of what they do and we hold the right to disagree or not do what goes against God’s word. But in general, He is able to control the situation. We must do what we believe He would have us to do but leave the end result to Him.
