(Revised)Baptist Press Reports: “Christian; religious families happier, less likely to divorce”

A new study reports that faith is important.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Men who attend religious services regularly are more likely to have happy and stable marriages, more likely to be involved with their children and less likely to divorce, new research says.

Additionally, mothers who attend church weekly are half as likely to have children out of wedlock, the study says.
The rest of the story can be found here.

My question then would be, why is the divorce rate among Christians so high according to other reports? (scroll down to Divorce among Christian Groups).

Which report is correct?

This seems like a negative question, but my concern is that Christianity is not a cure for all ills, it does not shield us from all bad things happening. Divorces still occur, death still occurs, illness happens, babies born out of wedlock to those in the church still occur. You can train up a child in the way he/she should go, but they are still prone to sin. The good news is Christ forgives all the above if one will come to Him, and it will be as if he/she never sinned.

I understand what the poll is saying, but Isn’t points like this “selling” Christianity? Is this right?

Charles Spurgeon battled depression, as did Martin Luther.

I knew a man who “came to Christ” thinking afterward that his wife, who had left him, would come back. When that didn’t happen, he was angry and turned his back on the church very disillusioned. His conversion wasn’t real. He did come to Christ later in life, only after realizing that Christianity is about Christ, not being shielded from bad things happening.

I just think we need to realize that being a Christian doesn’t always mean nothing like this will happen. We aren’t immune just because we are Christians. We need to be honest about that. It’s about Christ. Period.
