Darfur has been in the news quite a bit lately. Even as recent as yesterday, when seven peacekeepers were killed, according to www.savedarfur.org, “orchestrated by the government of the Sudan.”
In July 2007, the UN promised 19,000 peacekeepers to protect the people of Darfur, but so far only 2,000 have been sent and not given enough equipment to protect themselves or the citizens of Darfur.
This is another genocide, this is the murdering, brutalizing of men, women, and children. I think to myself how would I feel if this were happening to me, my family, my friends? I would want another country who had the power to come and end this, yet this is not happening, although it’s been in the news all over the world.
We as Christians must begin the ball rolling, we can help. We can do something.
First and foremost is prayer. Pray God’s protection on the people of Darfur. Write the UN or send an email. I know how most Christians feel about the UN but now is the time to set that aside , and no matter what your view on the UN, tell them to get off of their duffs and do as they promised. Send a message to President Bush. Please speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves. Time is crucial. It should have been done yesterday, months before, years before when this was seen coming. But we can still do something now. Innocents are being murdered by the day.
